Immigration Lawyer Miami

Immigration Lawyer Miami
You are not required to have a lawyer when applying for an immigrant visa or green card in the U.S. or abroad.
If you are or have ever been in deportation proceedings, committed a crime or lied to the U.S. government you must see a lawyer.

Finding a lawyer
To get names of good immigration lawyers ask a trusted person for a refferal.
Local nonprofit organizations can be a good source of referrals.
For a list of USCIS approved nonprofits immigration organizations, ask your local office or court or check www.uscis.gov
Most nonprofits keep lists of lawyers whom they know do honest work for a fair price.
You can also go to www.aila.org American Immigration Lawyers Association or call 1800-954-0254.
Meet and talk to a few lawyers and then choose one.

Avoid a lawyer if:
He approaches you in a public location and tries to solicit your bussiness.
He makes big promisses.
He encourages you to lie in your application.
If you are the victim of an unscrupilous lawyer, complain!
If a lawyer pulls something unethical on you, report it to state and local bar association and local District Attorney's office.

How much a lawyer charges is one of the factors to think about.

Here are some other important considerations:
1- Familiarity with cases like yours.
Ask him how long he expects your case to take and how many marriage-based cases he handled this year.
2- A lawyer with good working relations with the USCIS.
3- Lawyer accessibility.
Ask him how quickily he will get back to you.
4- His ability to explain services and costs.

Many lawyers will ask you to sign a contract covering services and fees.
The lawyer should go over the contract with you step by step.
Don't pay a big flat fee up front.
Watch out for nonlawyers practicing immigration law.
Immigration consultant and notary public do not have a law degree.
If you've been defrauded by an immigration consultant, you can sue him in a Small Claims Court.

You may have to pay an initial consultation fee.
Many lawyers charge flat rates for green card applications.
A marriage based application runs anywhere from $500 to $5000.

You have the right to fire your lawyer at any time, just make sure that your disagreement is 100% your lwayer's fault.
You will have to pay for any work that was already been done.
Firing your lawyer will not affect your application with the USCIS, send a letter to the USCIS with your change of mail.
