Lincoln Road Miami
| Lincoln Road Miami was built by Carl G. Fisher who intended it as the first commercial area in Miami Beach.
The pictures show how Lincoln Road was in the 1920s.
In 1960 the Road was closed to traffic and became the Lincoln Road Mall.
Lincoln Road Miami today is a pedestrian-only walking mall in South Beach,between Lenox Avenue and Washington Avenue.
At one time there were only small family owned shops but now the mall has come to favor large national retail chains.
This open-air mall is the location for restaurants, stores, art galleries, and the Regal movie theater.
At night many street performers come out and show some of their talent.
Parking is available in the many parking lots North and South of Lincoln Road,there is no need for change anymore.
The parking lots now utilize a system that accepts dollars, coins, and credit cards.
In the Lincoln Road mall you can spot many celebrities and models they help make the mall one of Miami's most popular tourist destinations.
The South Florida Art Center, the ColonyTheater and the New World Symphony add a bohemian element to the mix.
Even though chain stores have moved in, Lincoln Road has worked hard to retain its art deco roots and amazing architecture.
Rent is increadibly high.Many establishments do not last long.
Dinning in some places can be like being in the circus.Some people are loud and tacky.Yet other places are very polite and classy. |
Carl Fisher, the wealthy original developer of Miami Beach, envisioned Lincoln Road to be the Miami Beach counterpart toFifth Avenue in New York, or Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles.
Fisher's concept was that Lincoln Road wouldbe the way to draw together the east and west sides of Miami Beach.
Lincoln Road Miami is once again thriving as a shopping and dining area. Unique stores offer items not usually found in malls,restaurants and cafés are common.
Most restaurants have either indoor or outdoor seating. There seems to be a constant flow of stunningly attractive women and men passing by, and many wear fashionable clothes and designer brands.
