Guard Passes
How to open a closed guard
1-Knee in coccyx, 2-I sit back holding my foot, 3-The change of base of the wrist pass, 4-I stand up inside his closed guard, bringing him up with me, I push his knee down (knee over thigh pass), 5-As before, but instead of pushing his knee down, I unhook his top leg with my arm on my back and go for the smash pass, 6-I stand up inside his closed guard, but I leave his back on the mat, I open his guard by twisting my hips sideways, pushing his knee open on one side and putting my knee on his stomach on the other side of his body (spin leg backwards pass, foot lock or knee lock), 7-I stand up inside his closed guard, but I leave his back on the mat, I get position a little bit on top of him and I squeeze his thighs together using my knees, 8-Amassa-Pão and 9-Can-opener.
Martial Arts Miami Closed and/or Jumped Guard Passes
Knee in coccyx - Leg over thigh pass
Sit back - Smash pass
Wrist pass
My head on his chest, my hands on his biceps, I slide one of my hands from his bicep to his wrist, pinning his wrist to his hip, I put my head on the mat on the other side of his body, I bring my hips up by straighten up my legs, under his hip I give his wrist to my other hand on the other side of his body, I bring my hips down, I put my elbow down on the mat on the other side across his body, I switch my base, that causes him to open his legs, I can pass or go to a chicken wing or a wrist lock.
Combo: smash/leg over thigh pass
He blocks the smash pass by putting one hand on my face and the other one on my hip.
Standing leg over thigh pass
I stand up inside his closed guard then I bring him up with me, I push one of his knees down, if the pressure of the push down opens his legs, I place his back on the mats again and go for the leg over thigh pass.
Standing legs over thigh(s) pass 2
Similar to the one before but, the pressure of my push down does not open his legs, so I put my knees together, I shake him up as I push down on his knee, when he lands his butt on the mat I have 3 options: mount, right or left pass.
Standing (kind of) Sit back - Smash pass
Similar to the one before but, I hook my arm under his top leg that is on my back, when I break his guard open I place his back on the mat and go for the smash pass.
Martial Arts Miami Open guard
Stack pass
I place my arms under his thighs and my head in between his legs, I lock my hands and move towards him, I stack him and go for the smash pass.
TRAIN THE SCISSORS SWEEP FIRST
Scissors pass 1
When he goes for the scissors sweep position, I wrap my arm around his top thigh from the back and I hold his bottom thigh, I sprawl my legs backwards, I walk in circle towards the front of his body, I slide my bottom knee in and let go of his leg to establish the pass.
Scissors pass 2
If he blocks my pass by putting one hand on my shoulder and the other hand on my hip, I put my hand on his other shoulder and switch my base that causes a wrist lock on him and my body collapses on top of him, my armpit lands on his chin area. His body ends up sideways on the mat. Options: 1-Establish the side mount on the side of his body that you already are, 2-My bottom leg hooks his top leg and I switch my base on top of him and I end up on the other side of his body, 3-My top leg hooks his top leg and I slide my bottom leg towards his stomach ending up on the mount, 4-Twister.
Scissors pass 3
When he is in the scissors position I trap his foot by holding his belt on his back, then I sprawl my legs backwards and walk in a circle towards his front. Options: 1-Establish the side mount, 2-Quadriceps stretch submission. I don't let go of his trapped foot and I place my arm on his other shoulder, my armpit covers his chin, I grab my own hand and go for the stretch.
TRAIN THE UNDER-HOOKS SWEEP FIRST
Martial Arts Miami Under-hooks Guard
Under-hooks pass 1
One arm hooking under his thigh, my other arm on top of his knee, my head on the same side of the arm that is under his thigh, I push his knee down with my knee-hand and I slither over his pinned down bottom leg.
Under-hooks pass 2
Starts the same way as number 1, but my knee-hand holds the outside of his knee and instead of slithering over his bottom leg I switch base.
Under-hooks pass 3 Plantando Bananeira
Starts the same way as number 2, but I place my head on the mat and I jump over the knee-hand-leg (can be done slowly rotating the hips in mid air).
Under-hooks pass 4 Rolling my body
I hold his knees, roll my body backwards over his body and I end up with my back on top of his belly, I switch base and end up in the side mount.
Under-hooks pass 5 Rico Rodriguez
I hold his knees and push them to one side, I bring my leg over his legs placing it on the other side of his body ending up in the knee on the belly position.
Under-hooks pass 6
I hold his knees, I get rid of one of his under-hooks with my knee, I trap his other under-hook-foot with my bicep, I go under his no-hook-leg and hold his belt on his back, I sprawl my legs back, I can walk in circle and go for the pass or go for a knee lock.
Under-hooks pass 7 Somersault
First of all I make his under-hooks guard into an open guard by getting rid of both hooks, I post my head and hands close to his butt inside his open guard, I jump/roll over one of his thighs towards his side, falling into side mount.
Martial Arts Miami Butterfly Guard
Butterfly, Under-hooks or Sitting Guard
I stand on his butterfly guard holding his knees, I sprawl back with both legs putting his feet down on the mat, then I jump forward for the leap frog pass.
Smash pass with elbow
I stand on his butterfly guard holding his knees, I get rid of one of his feet on my hip using my elbow, I apply pressure with my elbow on the back of his knee, going to a smash pass kind of pass on the side of his knee.
TRAIN THE SPIDER SWEEP FIRST
Martial Arts Miami Spider Guard
Smash pass with elbow 2
I stand up inside his spider guard, esgrimo with both hands, I hold both of his knees and go for a smash pass with my elbow.
TRAIN THE DE LA RIVA SWEEP FIRST
Martial Arts Miami De La Riva Guard
Martial Arts Miami Sitting Guard
Leap frog pass (If his legs are closed)
Cartwheel (If his legs are open)
Backwards roll
(I can combine this pass with the Stack pass) I roll him backwards to deal with the turtle shell position then I deal with the north-south-back, side control, back position or twister.
Martial Arts Miami Half Guard
From Half Guard to Mount
With the gi, I hold his collar under his armpit. Without the gi, I place my elbow on the mat on the other side of his head (he smells my armpit position, also from this position I can hold one turn of his belt on his back). I walk my foot towards his butt, I tap his knee and I go to the mount, if my foot is trapped I block his arm first (this way he won't replace the half guard) then I untrap it with my other foot.
Turning the back to opponent inside the Half Guard
I turn my back to my opponent and place my elbow on the other side of his body, I move my body up to pin his chest then I pull my leg out using my hand grabbing my knee to help with the pull.
